Notable Women in Business Gather at K BA-NANA

Every time I hear about a new event from Gossip & Glamour, I make an effort to add it to my calendar. So even though the K BA-NANA Women In Business Event was scheduled for a Sunday at 9 am, I rolled out of bed to make it to University Village on time (thankfully Daylight Savings Time helped me out).

The event focused on a panel discussion moderated by Sydney Mintle of Gossip & Glamour and featured Liz Kang Yates, owner of K BA-NANA; Jillian Peterson, Multi-channel Buyer of YC Casual at Nordstrom; Carolyn Yuen Marino, Style Blogger at Hey Pretty Thing and Creator of Sweet & Power; and Brandy Brown, Founder and Creative Director of Marabou Design.

For the last two weeks, my brain has been preoccupied with preparing my new client website so it was nice to leave the house and hear the stories of four amazingly talented businesswomen who took initiative with their careers. The discussion covered everything from their humble beginnings to forming business connections to their best self-care practices. I was specifically impressed with Brandy Brown's story. It seems like we're on a similar career path, however, she's way further along than I am. It makes me feel a little more at ease knowing that there are other successful black female designers in the area (I thought I was the only one!).

Attending this event also allowed me to gain a little more perspective on my definition of success. If you're interested in attending future events like this, make sure to subscribe to the Gossip & Glamour mailing list.
